Clothing Recycling Bin On Site

Clothes Bin

As part of Deanmore’s extended anti-poverty awareness activities this term, a clothing recycling bin has been placed at the top of the driveway leading to the canteen (off Rinaldi Cres). Part proceeds from the sale of donated items will go to the Breast Cancer Foundation, which serves to support the families of people affected by breast cancer. Donated items are sorted at a warehouse in Wangara by Ecokids, which seeks to recycle as much as possible to reduce landfill. Rags are sold to industry, the proceeds of which fund sea containers. Good quality clothing is baled up and shipped to various African countries to be distributed by local non-government organisations. Some items are sold at low cost to defray shipping costs, and others are given away. While the Breast Cancer Foundation is a charity, Ecokids is a not-for-profit (& not-for loss) organisation, which runs purely on the goods donated through its clothing bins.

Suitable items to donate are Men’s, Ladies & Children’s clothes (no knitted jumpers, please), shoes & bags, Manchester & household textiles (towels, sheets, etc.), and also soft toys in good condition. The bin is cleared 2 – 3 times a week.

As always, please don’t drive your car up the canteen driveway as it presents a hazard to the children.
