Deanmore P&C - Walking School Bus The P&C runs a Walking School Bus route to school every Friday morning. The Walking School Bus is a popular way of encouraging young children to walk to school together. It works like a motorised bus picking up ‘passengers’ along the way at designated ‘bus stops’. The Walking School Bus operates as a supervised group of children walking to school along a safe and enjoyable set route. A group is accompanied by at least two parent supervisors. One parent ‘drives’ at the front of the bus, while the other parent supervises at the rear. All children are welcome to join the bus even if their parents cannot be drivers — and the service is free! If you would like your child to participate in this walking group, or if you are available to walk sometimes as a parent helper, you can meet us at one of the stops on Fridays at the (approximate) times detailed below. Alternatively, contact Robyn Attwell on 9341 5189. Note: If it is raining at 7:45am and it looks likely to continue, the Walking School Bus will not operate. Similarly, if a road weather alert has been issued by the Bureau of Meterology, the Walking School Bus will not operate.
Timetable for each Friday
TravelSmartIn Western Australia, the Walking School Bus model is coordinated through the Department for Planning and Infrastructure’s TravelSmart Program. The Department collects some interesting statistics about the effectiveness of the Walking School Bus programme. In 2007 we nearly doubled the previous year’s results - and that is without counting term 4 (statistics were not available for term 4 at the time this table was compiled).
